Samsung polyphonic handsets
Samsung handsets use a format known as SMAF for polyphonic ringtones.
Adding a ringtone to a Samsung polyphonic handset is a two stage process, first you need to create the ringtone file, then transfer the file to your phone.
Creating a Samsung polyphonic format file
Use the Midi to SMAF converter to convert any midi file into a SMAF (.mmf) file for use with your phone. The Midi to SMAF converter is documented here.
If you would like to use one of the sample, non-polyphonic ringtones included with the Ringtone Converter, choose a ringtone and then select the 'File' menu, then 'Save as' and save the file as a Smaf (mmf) file.
If you have an earlier phone such as the T100 we recommend you select the 16 chord conversion. If you have a very recent phone supporting 'polyphonic 40' such as the V200, select the 40 chord conversion.
Transferring the file to your phone
You can transfer SMAF ringtone files to your Samsung in a number of ways.
Option 1 - Cable transfer
If your phone came with a cable and Samsung software like EasyGRPS or PCLink for GSM, then this is probably the easiest way to add ringtones to your phone.
Simply connect your phone to the PC per the Samsung software instructions, start up the software and download the SMAF mmf file the ringtone converter created for you.
Option 2 - WAP
If you do not have a cable, you can add ringtones to your handset using WAP.
The Ringtone Converter has a fully functional WAP server built in, and will allow you to download the SMAF ringtones.
